Dr. Robert E. Zee - Managing Director, Space Flight Laboratory

[Robert E. Zee]

Dr. Zee is currently the managing director of the UTIAS Space Flight Laboratory. His responsibilities include strategic planning, finances and administration. In addition, he provides project guidance and program direction to the UTIAS/SFL staff. Dr. Zee also supervises graduate students with thesis topics in nanosatellite missions and microspace technology development.

 
Freddy Pranajaya - Manager, Advanced Systems
[Freddy Pranajaya]
Mr. Pranajaya manages a number of programs at the UTIAS Space Flight Laboratory including, the Low Cost Launch service, the Radiation Test program, and the Electric Propulsion program. He also shares the responsibility of Systems Engineering on microsatellite projects at SFL and assists in strategic planning.
 
Simon Grocott - Manager

Cordell Grant - Manager, CanX Program
[Cordell Grant]

Cordell manages the CanX programs and is the lead mechanical engineer at SFL. He has been part of the lab since 2003 when he began his M.A.Sc. and was responsible for the design of the structural and deployable subsystems for CanX-2 while also contributing to the thermal control subsystem. Prior to coming to the U of T, Cordell received a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a B.Sc. (Conc. Mathematics) from Cape Breton University.

Alexander Beattie - Manager, AISSat-1 Mission; Communications Engineer
Alex Beattie is the SFL communications engineer and is a member of the MOST mission operations team. With a background in Aerospace Engineering, he joined the SFL team in 2001 at a crucial time in the MOST development cycle. He designed major portions of the MOST spacecraft and ground station communication systems. He was also a core member of the assembly, test, and launch operations team. Currently, he is Managing the AISSat-1 mission, scheduled for launch in 2010.

Daniel Kekez - Electronics and Software Developer
Daniel Kekez develops software and electronics for use in the Nanosatellite programs at UTIAS/SFL. He has been part of the lab since 2003 when he was responsible for elements of the UHF Earth Station and the flight software for CanX-2 and obtained his M.A.Sc. He is a member of the operations team for the MOST, CanX-2, NTS missions, and is currently working on AISSat-1 in ground software, integration testing, and early operations. Prior to coming to UTIAS/SFL, Daniel received a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.

Stephen Mauthe - Propulsion Systems Engineer
[Stephen Mauthe]
Stephen Mauthe is primarily involved with the development of the NANOPS and CNAPS propulsion systems for the CanX series of satellites, as well as taking part in conceptual mission designs for business development. He first started working at SFL in 2004 as a student, and after completing his graduate degree (M.A.Sc.) at the University of Toronto, Stephen became a staff member in early 2007. His undergraduate education is in Aerospace Engineering (B.Eng.) from Ryerson University.
 
Nathan Orr - Power Systems Specialist
[Nathan Orr]
Nathan Orr is involved with the development of the power subsystem and flight/ground software for the CanX series of satellites as well as taking part in the conceptual mission designs for business development. He obtained a B.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta before starting his M.A.Sc degree at UTIAS/SFL in 2005. After completing his graduate degree focused on spacecraft power systems and flight software, Nathan started as an SFL staff member in late 2007.
