SPACE-SI Awards NEMO-HD Contract to SFL
After holding an open, worldwide competition to develop Slovenia’s first satellite for high definition imaging and video from Earth orbit, SFL has been selected by SPACE-SI as its prime contractor and satellite integrator. The satellite, called “NEMO-HD,” will deliver high resolution (up to 2.8m) multispectral imaging with pan sharpening, along with high definition imaging and video capabilities. “NEMO-HD is a next generation Earth observation satellite that leverages SFL’s NEMO technology to produce a high performance imaging and video mission in a remarkably small platform,” says Dr. Robert E. Zee, Director, SFL. “The capabilities of this satellite were previously only possible on much larger platforms. NEMO technology is breaking the barriers of what can be accomplished with microsatellites, at a fraction of the traditional budget.”
Through the NEMO-HD development program, SFL will satisfy SPACE-SI’s strategic interest in remote sensing technologies and services. NEMO-HD will provide high-definition, multispectral imaging capabilities with real-time interactive command and control. The proposed approach is to use two telescopes (two sets of optics) connected to a low resolution detector and a cluster of high-resolution detectors in the range of 450-900nm (R, G, B and near IR). Ground sampling distance (GSD) for high resolution detection will be better than 2.8m. Swath will be better than 10km at 600km altitude. In addition, both instruments will also have video capture capability, including the ability to transfer live HD video to the ground.
